At the center of this is the understanding of the connections between lower and higher cognitive planes; the Research Training Group thus brings together Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence. This lecture hall building with its spacious study space, located between a modern dining hall and the new library building, owes this name to its unusual architecture and colour scheme. These include four endowed professorships from the relevant field financed by industry and/or the city and district of Osnabrück. Other relevant work groups are planned in connection with the expansion of the DFKI Laboratory, Lower Saxony at the Osnabrück site. But at the governance level, too, two well-known computer scientists and cognitive scientists are contributing their expertise, firstly as Vice President in the President’s Cabinet and secondly as a member of the Board of Governors. After highly successful events at Durham, Oxford, Helsinki, Stony Brook, Canterbury and Mainz, the 2020 conference in this series will take place at Osnabrück University, Germany (15-17 May, 2020). The methodological approach of cognitive science clearly reveals the interdisciplinary heritage of the subject: cognitive science combines humanistic and analytical methods of the humanities and the formal sciences (eg theoretical linguistics) with both the scientific, experimental methods of psychology and neuroscience as well as with the synthetic and constructive techniques Of computer science. Furthermore, it is about the explanation of human language and non-verbal behavior, the formation of artificial intelligent systems and the investigation of perception and motorism.Methodically, this creates a stress field ranging from mathematical methods to psychological and neuroscientific experiments, to computer models of mental processes, and to philosophical reflection. Like the first conference in Bangor, CFAH 8 provides a forum and interface for scholars from various humanities, the arts, and cognitive science. For this purpose, the two DFKI work groups at the Osnabrück site are being expanded in the next few years to a total of at least 40 scientists.
