MISSION OF THE CENTRE FOR ASIAN STUDIES AND THE SILK ROAD PROJECT OF THE FACULTY OF PHILOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE
The Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade established The Centre for Asian Studies in 1995, named initially Centre for Japan and East Asia, with the aim of promoting, amongst other, the Silk Road Studies and achieving cooperation in joint project proposals’ development with prominent academic institutions worldwide. The main project of the Centre is the Faculty’s Silk Road Project aimed at establishing and developing Silk Road studies at the Faculty and achieving partnerships with universities that are active or are willing to become active in the field. In order to fully realize the goals of the Silk Road Project, some of the main Centre for Asian Studies’ activities include:
- Developing academic network of universities, institutes and centers that conduct scientific-research work in Silk Road studies as well as designing joint Silk Road studies’ curricula (both online and offline);
- Supporting Silk Road Studies at the Faculty of Philology and throughout Serbia in general;
- Preparing and publishing textbooks and teaching materials on the Silk Road Studies in Serbian language (including distance learning teaching materials);
- Organizing scientific conferences on Silk Road Studies and subsequent publication of Conference Proceedings;
- Organizing forums, roundtables and debates focusing on the issues arising from the One Belt, One Road Initiative (involving experts, scientists, researchers, policy makers as well as domestic and foreign government representatives);
- Organizing summer schools and internships for students;
- Dissemination of knowledge on the Silk Road to the general public (outreach activities);
